Tether is encouraging investors to participate in a funding round valued at $500 billion within the next two weeks. However, the company may delay the funding if demand doesn’t meet expectations.
The El Salvador-based company has been trying to raise additional capital since late last year. Back in September, we reported that Tether is exploring the possibility of raising between $15 billion and $20 billion through a private placement of approximately 3% of its shares, with Cantor Fitzgerald serving as lead adviser.
On in the words of the CEO Paolo Ardoino, a limited group of people could become investors to expand “existing and new business areas (stablecoins, ubiquity, artificial intelligence, commodity trading, energy, communications, media) by several orders of magnitude.”
However, apparently there are no people willing to invest in Tether It turns out not to be much. Investors are doubtful about the stock’s valuation. If expectations are not met, the company will likely postpone the fundraising. If the deal goes through under the proposed terms, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin will become one of the largest financial companies in the world. It will surpass all US banks in value except JPMorgan Chase ($794 billion). For comparison, Bank of America is valued at approximately $352,86 billion.
