Leading issuer of stablecoins Tether froze two wallets containing USDT worth $344 million, preventing further movement of funds to these addresses.
The company did not give specific reasons for the asset freeze, but reported, which blocks wallet addresses associated with “sanctions evasion, criminal networks, or other illegal activities.”

Tether collaborates with 340 law enforcement agencies in 65 countries. This partnership allows the company to directly coordinate with investigators during active cases. This system allows the stablecoin issuing company to act proactively, rather than reacting after the fact, once funds have already been distributed.
While the USDT issuer is cooperating with authorities, its main competitor, Circle, is accused of inaction. Previously, the editorial staff Happy Coin News Reported, that the company is being criticized for not freezing funds obtained as a result of the Drift Protocol hack.
Unlike Tether Circle stated that funds can only be frozen by court order, not at the request of law enforcement agencies or under pressure from crypto industry representatives.
