Recent report analytical database Artnome showed what types NFT are bestsellers in the art world.
To determine the tokens with the highest average selling price, the study took into account tags from the SuperRare trading platform.
The tag with the highest average price was «sci-fi» — NFT with a “sci-fi” theme, which average $7, which is significantly higher than other tags.
In second place is the “2d” tag, where the token price averages just below $6, which is almost 000% less.
The third place was taken by the theme “space” – $5, the fourth place – “surreal”, closely followed by the theme “render”.
The tags “3d,” “rare,” “3dart,” and “nude” also performed well. The latter tag is the most expensive among canonical fine art items, with an average sale price of $4.
The paper suggests that these figures may have been influenced by the initial «dominance» of artist Robbie Barratt on the SuperRare platform and the preponderance of male buyers.
Also included in the top 50 are some blockchain and cryptocurrency related tags — «Bitcoin»,»Block»,»Ethereum» and «eth». However, the report states that, despite the fact that NFT often based on Ethereum, tokens on Bitcoin- themes have a higher average price.
Regarding the number of works tagged, the first place is occupied by the “3d” tag, which is used in 17% of all NFT on the SuperRare platform, with the tags “abstract”, “animation”, “gif” and “surreal” being in the top five.
«Surrealism» is the only tag in the top 5 based on price and usage.
To sum up, the themes of futurism, retro and science fiction are among the most studied and revered by collectors, so much so that we can assume the existence of a kind of “technostalgia” among them.
Another interesting, albeit obvious, point is that some of the most commonly used tags are typical, if not native, to crypto art. Indeed, crypto-themes literally dominate the market NFT, relegating more traditional works of art to the background.
Other report, this time from Messari, shows that Nifty Gateway is currently the leading platform in terms of sales volume NFT.
Note that the most widely used platform OpenSea was excluded from this analysis because it is an aggregator and therefore its sales volumes may include NFT from other platforms such as SuperRare. Moreover, this applies not only to the art market, but to the entire market NFT as a whole.
The Nifty Gateway platform is owned by a cryptocurrency exchange Gemini, and in the first quarter of the year its income amounted to more than $200 million. For comparison, the income of platforms Rare and SuperRare reached $61 million and $43 million.
Main projects related to NFT, generated over $750 million in secondary market sales, with the NBA Top Shots collection being the clear leader, followed by Punks and Sorare.
